About Ruby K Swaid, Clinical Psychologist
Reaching out for help takes courage, especially when you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed. I want your first step into therapy to feel safe, respectful and worth taking.
I’m a clinical psychologist with more than eight years’ experience supporting people with their mental health. I’ve worked across private practice, private hospital, community health and specialist family violence services. That includes facilitating DBT groups at Albert Road Clinic since 2022. This range of experience means I’m comfortable working with people from many different backgrounds, from those facing a difficult season of life to those living with long-standing, complex difficulties.
How I work
I believe the relationship between you and your therapist is the foundation of good therapy. Without trust and safety, even the most skilled techniques won’t help. I take a curious, compassionate and non-judgemental approach, and I’m transparent about your options so you can tell me what’s working for you and what isn’t.
My approach is tailored to you and guided by research. Depending on your needs, therapy may draw on:
✤ Compassion-focused and mindfulness-based approaches
✤ Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), including Radically Open DBT
✤ EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and trauma-focused CBT
✤ Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and CBT
What I can help with
✤ Trauma, PTSD and complex PTSD
✤ Borderline personality disorder and intense emotions
✤ Anxiety and depression
✤ Grief, loss and major life transitions, including the perinatal period
✤ Burnout, perfectionism, self-criticism and low self-esteem
A safe space to be yourself
I’m a neuroaffirming and LGBTQIA+ affirming clinician. I work with people as they are, and I adapt therapy to fit you rather than expecting you to fit therapy.
I have extensive experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Your culture, faith, family and values are respected, and you decide how much they come into our work. I’m fluent in English and Arabic and can provide therapy in either language, or a mix of both. I also speak Japanese.
